How to update your Phaze remote for use with the Diablo Series boardUpdated 3 hours ago

If you’ve bought a Phaze remote from a third-party seller (like Electric Surf Co. or Last Mile NYC or Boosted etc) and your Diablo Carbon board won’t connect, it’s most likely due to outdated firmware on the remote.

⚠️ Important compatibility note

If your Phaze remote is running firmware version 3.09 (used in the GTR Series), it will not connect to newer boards like the Diablo Series or Stoke X.

To fix this, the remote needs to be updated to firmware version 3.14 using the Explore by Evolve app.

🔋 What you need

  • Your Phaze remote

  • Your phone (with the Explore by Evolve app installed)

  • Your Diablo Carbon board (you can leave it off during the update)

📱 How to update the firmware (remote only)

  1. Download the Explore by Evolve app

From the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

  2. Open the app

Tap on the Profile icon in the bottom right.

  3. Scroll to ‘Remote’

Tap and select "Check for Updates".

  4. Choose the "Phaze" option, it's the bottom tile

  5. Choose the top tile which says "Diablo Series / Stoke X"

  6. A Remote Update Pop Up will appear, tap "Update"

  7. Put the remote into DFU mode

Hold the Mode 2 button and the Deadman switch, then turn the remote on.

It will enter update mode automatically.

  8. Please wait for the update to complete, it will take several minutes

  9. After the update, it will ask you to perform a Trigger Calibration. Once that is complete, you can turn the board on, hold the Mode 1 button and wait for it to connect to the board

  10. You're all set

🔗 How to pair your updated remote

  1. Turn the board on first

  2. Hold the remote close

Keep the remote within 30 cm of the motor controller (rear underside of the board).

  3. Power on the remote

When it says ‘Pair Remote’, hold the Mode 1 button until the Bluetooth icon flashes.

  4. Wait for confirmation

The screen will show the speed dial and ‘SAFE’ mode when paired.

✅ Pro tip: Make sure you don’t touch the throttle or brake during pairing.

🤔 Still not working?

  • Double-check your firmware version is 3.14

  • If the remote doesn’t update, try restarting your phone, the remote, and the app.

  • Try a second phone if possible—some devices can have Bluetooth issues.
